First stop: Hermosa Beach, CA

Marcia and Frank in front of the rental -- ready to rock!

And the New Zealand adventure begins! We rented a car to drive to Newark Airport and flew to L.A. to stay for one night to break up the long flight.

Frank and sister Marcia arrive in Hermosa Beach

Instead of staying at the usual airport hotel, Anne found a place in Hermosa Beach. Great little, low-key but upscale beach town.

Eating Mexican and imbibing "real deal"margaritas!

The three of us celebrated with some excellent, authentic Mexican cuisine. Good margaritas too.

La La girls, Marcia and Anne, at the beach

Since our flight to Tahiti didn’t leave until 11:00 p.m., we had a whole day to enjoy the beach in La La Land. Or as Frank likes to say two La La Girls in La La Land.

Beach bum on Hermosa Beach

We all frolicked on the beautiful, wide beach, soaking up the warmth and the sun.

Sea lion scavenging for food under the pier

We walked the picturesque Hermosa Beach Pier, checking out the fisherman and their catch. And even spotted a sea lion, hoping to relieve the fishermen of some of their fish.

Crazy touristas who think they can surf

Hermosa Beach has a famous statue of a surfer, and with the help of some new friends from New York, we all got into the act, climbing all over that poor surfer guy. (You know how crazy touristas are!)

Beautiful; Hermosa Beach
This was a great way to start our trip, and we are definitely in the mood for Tahiti now!

  1. Love seeing the three of you having such a great time and the trip has not even officially started! Can't wait to hear about Tahiti; we were there in 2000 and it was beautiful.
